Perceived Views of the Vikings as alternatively Violent, Piratical Heathens or as Intrepid Adventurers owe much to Conflicting Varieties of the Modern Viking Myth that had taken Shape by the early 20th Century. Current Popular Representations of the Vikings are Typically Based on Cultural Clichés and Stereotypes, Complicating Modern Appreciation of the Viking Legacy. These Representations are not Always Accurate.

The Author ig known as being rather subversive and not being "compatible" with the Academic Sector. Having a Passion for Old Maps and for the History of Navigation, Joël Supéry works since more than 15 Years on the Vikings. He already published "Secret des Vikings" (Equateurs,2005) and "Des Vikings Au Coeur De Nos Régions" (Yago, 2009). In this Essay, he is trying to introduce and demonstrate (his way) that the Vikings were not just Barbarians in Search of Infinate Conquests but were Well Organized and having a Very Long Term Vision. The Trade Side of their Invasions was well at the Top of their Priorities....
